My wife and I had the chance to see “Win Win” the other night and as usual Thomas McCarthy did not disappoint. The cast was great, including great performances by Paul Giamatti and Amy Ryan, and it is always great for me to see a film like this do well that simply tells a great story without big effects, giant budget, or underestimating it’s audience. I particularly responded to the way the film dealt with the issue of straddling the line between ethical integrity and being able to put food on the table, and I think this film resonates so well because at some point or another almost everyone faces similar choices in their own lives. Special kudos to composer Lyle Workman and music supervisor Mary Ramos, who created a musical pallet of score and songs that fit seamlessly together and never trampled on the story or performers. Definitely a worthwhile twelve bucks!
