Cheap Trick in Las Vegas

As part of their “Sergeant Pepper’s” show, which debuted at the Hollywood Bowl last year and resumed at “Paris” in Las Vegas this summer, I was asked by the band to create orchestral arrangements for several of their biggest hits, including “Want You To Want Me”, “Surrender”, and “Dream Police”. Being a long time fan of the band and a Beatles junkie since childhood, I was thrilled to contribute to the show. One of the best things about the show is that the sound mixer is none other than Geoff Emerick, who was the sound engineer for the original “Sergeant Pepper’s” record and numerous other Beatles recordings. A highlight of my summer was being able to sit down and chat with Geoff after one of the shows at Paris. It’s hard to believe that this humble and gracious man was truly part of one of the most exciting musical rides in history. For any Beatles or music fan, I heartily recommend checking out Geoff’s book “ Here, There, and Everywhere: My Life Recording The Music Of The Beatles”. It was fascinating to read about those Beatles recording sessions from the perspective of their engineer, only 19 at the time that “Sergeant Pepper’s” was recorded.
