For the first time since winning 130K in 2004, and the second time ever, I was able to sneak down to Cabo San Lucas for an encore appearance in the “Los Cabos Tuna Jackpot” on November 4th and 5th. Along with my nephew Evan Salvay and long time friend Jeff McMahon, we embarked early Thursday morning on my boat “Afishinados”, along with 117 other boats and over 400 eager participants filled with the kind of bristling hope and eternal optimism that can only be found before the tournament starts. Incredibly, by final 1st day weigh-in at 6 pm, we were the last team standing and won $ 44,600.00 for our 180 pound tuna, the largest of the day. Unlike in 2004, our fish didn’t hold up to win the overall tournament as a larger fish was taken the second day, but hey – making 44K for a days work with you best buddies in Cabo….not so bad.
